Mortars and Concrete

Mortars and Concrete

The concrete and mortar research lines focus into the knowledge of:

  • Design and characterization of recycled aggregate concrete.
  • Use of steel slag as aggregate for the manufacture of recycled mortar and concrete.
  • New active additions complementary to common cements.
  • Self-compacting high resistance concrete (over 100 MPa).
  • Microstructural characterization of concrete and mortar using SEM and CT techniques.
  • Design of new methodologies for the characterization of concrete, both, in the fresh state (workability) and in the hardened state (permeability).
  • Fatigue characterization of concrete, including high frequencies behavior (100 Hz).
  • Durability studies, analyzing concrete response to: freeze-thaw cycles, drying-wetting cycles, accelerated carbonation or marine environments.
