Full Professor of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering

Isidro Carrascal

Isidro A. Carrascal Vaquero holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Cantabria (2006), with a thesis focused on the optimization and behavior analysis of fastening systems for Spain’s high-speed railways, awarded Outstanding Cum Laude. He is also an Industrial Engineer, specializing in Mechanics and Materials (University of Cantabria, 1996), and a Technical Industrial Engineer specializing in Structures and Industrial Installations (University of León, 1992), for which he received the Extraordinary End-of-Degree Award.

He is currently a Full University Professor in the field of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering and serves as the Technical Director of LADICIM. Throughout his career, he has participated in over 100 research projects, acting as Principal Investigator in approximately 30% of them. The total managed funding exceeds 20 million euros, and he holds a recognized six-year transfer period.

His research career specializes in analyzing the mechanical behavior of materials in the railway, polymer, and biological fields. He has applied experimental techniques and advanced modeling to characterize structural components and study phenomena such as material degradation, fatigue, and aging. His work is also notable for its strong connection with the industrial sector, including technical evaluations and participation in European standardization committees.

He has collaborated with institutions and companies to develop solutions for critical infrastructures, led research lines in multiscale materials characterization, and engaged in training and technology transfer activities. His scientific output includes publications in high-impact journals and significant contributions to national and international conferences.
